Job opportunities available for local residents at proposed plastics plant

GCGV Project's Hire Smart - Hire Local Initiative focuses on creating opportunities for the local workforce

 

PORTLAND, TEXAS – The Gulf Coast Growth Ventures Project (GCGV) today announced Hire Smart – Hire Local, a new initiative designed to ensure residents in the Coastal Bend region have opportunities to work with the proposed GCGV Project. The initiative – part of the GCGV Project’s Good Neighbor Program – focuses on three key areas: construction jobs, permanent jobs and job training.

“The GCGV Project will bring thousands of jobs to the area, and we are committed to filling as many of those jobs as we can with local residents,” said John Mabry, operations manager for the GCGV Project. “These jobs will often require specialized training and skills, and that’s where this new initiative comes in. Hire Smart – Hire Local focuses on connecting local residents with opportunities to work with the project, from construction to operations.”

The GCGV Project expects to create more than 600 permanent, highly skilled jobs with competitive salaries and good benefits. As a part of the GCGV Project’s Good Neighbor Program, Hire Smart – Hire Local will work closely with area educational institutions to ensure training is available and help prepare the local workforce to compete for these jobs.

The project will also generate about 6,000 construction jobs at peak, creating a significant opportunity for the local construction workforce. The project’s Engineering, Procurement and Construction contractors will manage most of the hiring for the construction phase.
